ACHTERGROND: Een korte geschiedenis van Street Art In het begin van de jaren zeventig ontstond vanuit de diepste en donkerste uithoeken van New York een unieke vorm van kunst, die miljoenen voorbijgangers aansprak, met sterke en krachtige boodschappen die de stem vertegenwoordigden van degenen die de gangbare ideeën en die twijfelden aan de oprechtheid van het 'systeem'. Het werk van graffitikunstenaars heeft de wereld stormenderhand veroverd toen er 's nachts verschillende inscripties verschenen op bakstenen muren, betonnen gebouwen en trottoirs van stedelijke gebieden van bijna elk land. Van gespoten handtekeningen evolueerde deze vorm van vrijheid van meningsuiting in de loop van de tijd tot uitgebreide tekeningen die meestal de omringende ruimte weerspiegelen of incorporeren. En zo heeft de wereld een nieuwe vorm van kunst aangeboord: STREET ART. Vereerd om enkele van de meest gevestigde en enkele jongeren samen te brengen en veelbelovende straatartiesten uit zowel Europa als de Verenigde Staten.
